While humans are very good at shaping the environment to their liking, plant life doesn’t always play along! Plants grow in the cracks of our parking lots, their roots shove sidewalks out of place, and they generally make homes wherever they see fit. For this challenge, we’d like you to slow down and appreciate the trees. The longer you spend paying attention, the more you will discover the beauty in their unique profiles. Keep your eyes open for a tree you find striking, then take an artistic photograph to share with your fellow scouts.

🔍 Plant I.D.
Most of us walk by plant life regularly, but do you know the names of the plants that surround you? For this challenge, you’ll be using a plant identification guide to learn what to call a plant you cannot yet name. You can go the traditional route and use a guide in book form, or try your hand at an app.

We challenge you to take a trip to a farmer’s market! Then, create a meal using farm fresh produce. If you’re a regular market goer, consider upping the challenge by making it a bit new! You could go to a new market, or push yourself to buy a type of produce you’ve never eaten before.

For this challenge we’ll need to practice delayed gratification, as the finished product will take at least a couple weeks to emerge. You’ll be completing the 300 point Kingdom Plantae Art Objective through making and using a flower press!

📜 Plant Verse
For this challenge, you’ll need to complete the 100 point Kingdom Plantae literature objective. You’ll start by finding and photographing a plant you find interesting, and then you’ll write a free verse poem about it! Take your time to make this one something you’re proud of. We look forward to reading what you come up with!

It wouldn't be right to have a plant quest without asking you to get your hands dirty! For this challenge, we ask you to complete the 300 point Kingdom Plantae DIY objective by sowing something you have never attempted to grow before. While not required to earn your star, we would LOVE to see updates of your plant as it grows!

To kick off the first challenge for the newly re-released Kingdom Plantae quest, you’ll need to choose either the Literature 300 or Media 150 objective. Would you rather read a novel or watch a movie? The choice is up to you! You’ve got nearly three months (as of the release of this challenge) to plan to complete this challenge, and we suggest you start ASAP!
