All Who Wander - Travel - 300

“If we are to have broad-thinking men and women of high mentality, of good physique and with a true perspective on life, we must allow our populace a communion with nature in areas of more or less wilderness condition.”

- Arthur Carhart, Former U.S. Forest Service Official

Objective:

1) Visit a state or national park. (And, of course, provincial parks work too!)

2) Research! Visit the ranger's station, find a map and/or research ahead of time online to find a hiking trail that's right for you.

3) Hike the trail!

4) Take a photo at the park to document your hiking experience. Post it on Instagram or Twitter with the tags #QuestScouts and #TrailHike.

All Who Wander - Visit - 400

"When you put yourself on the line in a race and expose yourself to the unknown, you learn things about yourself that are very exciting."

- Doris Brown Heritage, pioneer in women's distance running

Objective:

1) Choose an organized walk or run that you'd like to participate in. There are many places online that provide a list of events. We suggest you start with Active's list.

Notes:

a- By "organized," we mean an event for which you must register ahead of time and walk with a large number of strangers. Think bin number and free t-shirt type events!

b- While we use the word "walk" and "run" above, of course there are many people who don't use that language to describe their mobility! Adaptive sports are, as always, welcome in Quest Scouts.

2) Register for your run or walk!

3) Show up and go! You can do it!

4) Take a photo that document your experience. Post it on Instagram or Twitter with the tags #QuestScouts and #Race.

Remember, if you post to a public Instagram or Twitter account your photo will show up on our Scout Board for other Quest Scouts to enjoy and comment on.

5) Tell us about your experience with your organized walk/run in the comments below. Which race did you sign up for? Where was it? Did you do it with friends? How did you prepare? Did you experience any challenges? Did you enjoy yourself?

All Who Wander - Art - 200

'Nature is still complete and inexhaustible in her most remote refuges, her magic still real. At any time, meaning any season, in all weathers, in things great and small. Always. Potential Utopias are under every stone, on every leaf and behind every tree, in the clouds and in the wind. Pitting poetry against the inhuman river of time.

-Nils-Udo

Objective:

1) Lets start out with some inpiration. Spend a few minutes checking out the work of Andy Goldsworthy and Nils-Udo. While you're doing this, try to imagine how you might incorporate elements of their art into your own.

2) Head out for a hike. While out, create a public work of art with items you've gathered along the trail.

Note: Keep in mind! Before you do anything, make sure to think about the effects your actions will have on the surrounding area. We suggest keeping your art small scale, and not moving items too far from their original resting places.

3) Take a photograph of your natural art and share it on Instagram or Twitter with the tags #QuestScouts and #NaturalArt.

Remember, if you post to a public Instagram or Twitter account with the tag #QuestScouts your photo will show up on our Scout Board for other Quest Scouts to view and interact with.

All Who Wander - DIY - 150

"Ancient nomadic tribes used to mix up dried berries, fruits, nuts and meats together. It wasn't called Trail Mix then, but nevertheless it was just that.  Trail mix was (and is) high in energy, needs no specialized storage, and does not require cooking prior to consumption."

-Carol Casey

Objective:

1) Create your own trail mix.

Use any recipe you'd like! Pinterest has a ton of great suggestions.

2) Take a photograph of your finished mix (or even better, you on the trail enjoying your snack,) and share it on Instagram or Twitter with the tags #QuestScouts and #TrailMix.

Remember, if you post to a public Instagram or Twitter account with the tag #QuestScouts your photo will show up on our Scout Board for other Quest Scouts to view and interact with.

3) Describe your trail mix  recipe in the comments below. What recipe did you use? How did the mix turn out?

This is a quick, easy objectives that is intended to elicit a bit of creativity. It's time to transform yourself or a friend into a superhero! (And, of course, we want you to get it on film!)

Objectives:

1) Choose a person to make into a superhero and make the transformation! You can do this through costume, posture, or a combination of both- the choice is up to you!

2) Photograph your newly minted superhero. Do your best to make the shot as "epic" as possible. Try to capture your superhero's specific powers. Flight? Super Strength? (Invisibility would DEFINITELY be cheating here. Nice try...)

3) Share the photograph on Twitter or Instagram with the tags #QuestScouts and #Superhero.

Remember, if you post to a public Instagram or Twitter account with the tag #QuestScouts your photo will show up on our Scout Board for other Quest Scouts to view and interact with.

Paneled - DIY - 350

Objective:

1) Watch What is A Zine from Christian Harrop. Optionally, for a deeper dive, check out the short documentary Zines: The Power of DIY by Belinda Cai. (This is especially suggested if you are new to zines!)

2) Write/Design a Comic Zine

What's a comic zine? A zine with comics in it. Your zine does not have to be 100% comic to fulfill this objective. Instead, at least one page must contain a comic. The rest is up to you!

Now, it's time to write and design your zine. It's a good idea to decide on a theme and title of your zine first. From there, plan out what you want on each page, and write/draw your page content.

You'll want to know what "shape" you want your zine to be, and how many pages it will contain, before you begin. Generally, zines are composed of copy paper, with or without a cardstock outer cover. There is no wrong way to make a zine. However, if you're not sure what direction to go in, check out this "How to Make a Zine" tutorial from Mark Rudolph.

3) Make your zine. Once you've designed your zine, you'll need to make copies of it to distribute. Print and compile at least 10 zines.

4) Distribute your zine to at least 10 individuals! Let us know in the comments below how you distributed your zine and how the experience went for you. What did it feel like to distribute your work? Did you enjoy the design process?

5) Photograph a portion of your zine and share it on Instagram or Twitter with the tags #QuestScouts, #Comics and #Art.

Remember, if you post to a public Instagram or Twitter account with the tag #QuestScouts your photo will show up on our Scout Board for other Quest Scouts to view and interact with.

Bonus) If you need more inspiration for your comic zine, or are simply interested, check out my favorite comic artist, Alec Longstreth

Paneled - Visit - 150

“I do not want to get to the end of my life and find that I just lived the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well.”

-Diane Ackerman

Objective:

1) Buy a newspaper with a comic book section. The best comics usually appear on Sundays!

2) Head to a cafe or any other indoor, public location. We suggest a cafe because comics pair well with hot beverages!

3) Sit back, relax and read the comic section of the newspaper.

4) Let us know how it went in the comments below. What paper did you buy? Where did you go to read your comics? Who were you with? Did you have a good time? We want all the details!

Paneled - Visit - 200

Objective:

1) Check out theatre listings for movies whose characters originally appeared in comic books or graphic novels. Depending on when you tackle this objective, you may need to wait for a movie to become available. However, this Summer will present several options! Second run theatres are also worth checking out.

Requirements:

-In order to fulfill this objective you must a) watch a movie based on comic books while b) in a theatre. No exceptions.

2) Go to the theatre and watch the movie you chose.

3) Document your trip to the theatre with a photograph of yourself. )If you're up for it, take a photograph of yourself in front of the movie poster of the movie you watched.) Post your photo on Twitter or Instagram with the tags #QuestScouts and #Comics.

Remember, if you post to a public Instagram or Twitter account with the tag #QuestScouts your photo will show up on our Scout Board for other Quest Scouts to view and interact with.

4) Let us know what movie you watched, and what you thought of it, in the comments below.

Paneled - Art - 150

"Comic books are definitely one of the most overlooked art forms. I've been told there are five pure American art forms: jazz, the musical comedy, the mystery novel, the banjo and comic books. They were born here, in New York City. They're revered in Italy and Japan."

-David Jay Gabriel

Objective:

1) Take some time to comb through several comic books. This is a great objective to tackle while at a comic book shop, but can also be completed through other means, including using the Internet. All you need is a variety of comic books to peruse.

2) Continue looking though books until you happen upon a book whose art you find particularly beautiful.

3) Photograph a portion the art if possible. Alternatively, you can find a copy of the online.

4) Share the art on Instagram or Twitter with the tags #QuestScouts, #Comics and #Art.

Remember, if you post to a public Instagram or Twitter account with the tag #QuestScouts your photo will show up on our Scout Board for other Quest Scouts to view and interact with.

5) In the comments below, tell us about the art. Who drew it? What story is it a part of? What about the art do you find aesthetically pleasing?
