Weekly Challenge: ⛏️ Artifact

Complete the 150 point Bones research objective through learning & reporting back about an artifact discovered at an archaeological site.

Details:

1) Watch the short video, What Is an Artifact? from Dr. Mike T. Carson.

Carson explains that:

“In archaeology, an artifact can be any object that was made or modified artificially by a person. The physical object of an artifact must show definitive material evidence that it was altered in a way that could not have happened through a natural process.”

2) Identify and learn about an artifact that was discovered at an archeological site.

You may choose your artifact in any way you see fit, including:

  • In conjunction with the Bones Travel 300 objective, which asks you to visit an archeological dig site.

  • Stumbling upon something interesting while browsing a history museum.

  • Choosing a famous artifact you’re already aware of (e.g. the rosetta stone, or King Tut’s mask) and doing a deeper dive into its history.

3) If you visit the artifact in person and are able, take a photo of the artifact. If you do not visit in person, and a non-copyrighted photo of the artifact is available, save the photo. Share the photo of the artifact in a comment on our Facebook Page on the post “Weekly Challenge- ⛏️ Artifact”.

If you can’t acquire a photo, you may describe the artifact’s appearance instead.

4) Along with the photo, tell us:

  • What the artifact is

  • Why you chose the artifact

  • Where the artifact was found

  • A few interesting things you learned about the artifact

5) Don’t forget to record your points! Completing this objective not only earns you a star, but also 150 points towards your Bones quest for completing the research objective!
